DIY Natural Cinnamon Coffee and Salt Body Scrub

This all natural body scrub is easy to make and offers amazing benefits for your skin. Epsom salt, cinnamon, coffee ground and coconut oil (other carrier oils may be substituted) is all you need to make this simple scrub. Please note that this is intended for use as a body scrub as it can be too harsh for delicate skin. We do not recommend using this as a face scrub.

Our skin absorbs 60-80% of what it comes into contact with; which is exactly why it is our top priority to know precisely what is in not only the products we personally use as a family but especially in the products we make for the apothecary. Health benefits of this easy coffee and salt scrub

The coffee and cinnamon in this scrub work as natural stimulants to the skin awakening your senses, boosting your energy and increasing the blood circulation to the skin. They are also powerful antioxidants which are great for making the skin appear younger and healthier by healing sun spots, wrinkles, and fine lines, allowing the skin to look brighter and feel tighter. The epsom salts work as a natural exfoliate helping the body to get rid of dead skin cells, reducing inflammation, and flushing harmful toxins from the body. The coconut oil is a powerful moisturizer with antifungal and antibacterial properties allowing the skin to be simultaneously cleansed and hydrated.

Natural Cinnamon Coffee Scrub Recipe

Items Needed:

  • 1 cup freshly ground coffee

  • 1 cup epsom salts (ground or coarse)

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup coconut oil (or other carrier oil)

  • 1 jar or container to store it in

  • 1 mixing boil

  • 1 spoon to mix with

  • 1 heat safe dish for coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine the fresh coffee grounds, epsom salts, and cinnamon into the mixing bowl. Make sure your coffee grounds are fresh, as tempting as it is to reuse your coffee grounds the moisture will provide the perfect environment for mold to grow.

  2. Soften/Melt your coconut oil in a double boiler until softened or melted if you would like a thinner scrub. This can also be achieved by placing it in the microwave for 10-25 seconds.

  3. Add the coconut oil to the coffee grounds, salts, and cinnamon and stir well.

  4. Once mixed, place it in the storage container and add the date somewhere to your container, when ready, use as directed.

Notes:

This body scrub lasts up to three months from the date created. This is a great body scrub but it is not recommended for use on the face as it may be too abrasive. Check out the recipe substitution section below for more tips.

How to Use:

Use 2 tbsp and gently exfoliate the skin focusing on common problem areas such as the elbows, knees, thighs, feet, and hands. Rinse off with warm water and follow with a final rinse in cold water to close the pores and lock in moisture.

Substitutions:

In place of epsom salts you may also use a sea salt, himalayan salt, or sugar. In place of coconut oil feel free to use any carrier oil you prefer, grape seed and avocado are some of our favorites. If you have super sensitive skin you may want to skip the cinnamon and make sure you salt in ground finer by putting it in a blender, food processor, or mortar and pestle, until you’re satisfied.
