With the arrival of May brings the middle mark between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Beltane honors life and represents the peak of spring, at this time earth energies are at their strongest, resurrecting life after the long harsh winter. The flowers are in bloom and the trees are green and swaying. Take this time to appreciate the life that surrounds you, the birds and the bugs, the trees and the flowers and give thanks.
Celebrations and Rituals:
Beltane is a festival of fire designed to encourage the sun to nurture harvests and protect the community. Combining the vitality of sun and earth, honoring the process of growth, this is a potent time for fertility magick. Don’t forget that the garden can be one of the most magical places so if you haven’t started yet plan, create, and grow your magical garden. If you’re looking for ideas on what to plant, stay tuned as I will be publishing a new article all about magical gardens later this month!
Here is a list of some cute ideas for you and your family to practice to continue to honor the return of spring! Remember even if you’re busy you can still do something simple to align yourself with the fiery earth energy of Beltane.
Put on some music that makes you really happy and excited! As this is a celebration of abundance and high energy listen to anything that raises your vibration.
Get creative and create something; draw, paint, write, or just work on any projects you need to finish. For us, this year this means finishing up our chicken coop and tearing down our trailer to build our tiny house!
Make something in the kitchen; use anything that is in season or reminds you of the summer months ahead. I really like to start making smoothies and fruit salads during this time!
Light some candles, wax melts, or incense! Since fires are tradition on Beltane, candles are a great way to do so safely and be able to bring it into the home. Don’t forget to check out our vegan Beltane’s Love soy wax melt!
Pick some wildflowers and bring them into the home, you can place them in a vase on your altar, hang them to dry and use later in baths or spells, or use them to make a flower crown
As always especially since the weather is so nice during this time I always recommend going on nature walks and taking the time to reconvene with the earth. If you’re anything like me you’ll come home with all sorts of cool rocks, sticks, and other random herbs and flowers.
Use the flowers you picked for a ritual bath or try our pre-made Self-Love Ritual Bath Salt Soak.
Beltane Altar Decoration Ideas:
Flowers are great even if you only have some dried petals bring them out and let their beauty and aroma fill the space.
Candles are wonderful during this time, although I may be a tad bit obsessed with them, I love leaving a few on my altar and lighting one whenever I walk by to add an extra punch of energy to the space.
Plants! I usually always have at least one plant on my altar that I am either trying to bring back to life, or have dedicated to me or a loved one as a growth spell as these are so fun and a great way to use plants in your craft.
Decorate with red, green, white, purple and yellow or any other color you associate with spring and summer.
You can leave offerings of summer and spring fruits, I also really like to make sun water and leave some on my altar during this time.
Switch up the crystals you're using, I like to use a lot of grounding crystals through the winter but as spring is definitely here it can help lighten your load to swap some of those crystals out for some fresh energy. Emerald, malachite, amethyst, carnelian, rose quartz, and blue apatite are some of my favorites.
Write down a motivational phrase, choose words that are uplifting and make you feel confident and leave it on your altar. Read it everyday and take a second to take a deep breath and smile, even if you had a horrible day or the weather sucks and is bumming you out.
Easy Beltane Breakfast:
What you'll need:
-2 large eggs
-¾ cup milk
-½ cup water
-1 cup flour
-3 tbsp melted butter
-butter or oil for coating the pan
-large mixing bowl
-griddle or frying pan
-spatula
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs. Gradually, add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add butter; beat until smooth.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.
