The Best Way to Store Fresh Herbs

As you may have learned, different herbs require different storing techniques. Below we will go over some of the best ways to store your fresh herbs.

Chives, Thyme, and Rosemary

Herbs like chives, thyme, and rosemary will want to be loosely wrapped in plastic wrap and is best stored in the warmest part of the refrigerator; the door works really well. Ce careful not to wrap the herbs too tightly or any trapped moisture may cause them to mold prematurely. Do not rinse the herbs until just before using them. Some people may add a piece of paper towel to the wrap to help ensure there's no excess moisture.

Basil, Parsley, Cilantro

A fresh bunch of basil can be treated the same as a bouquet of flowers; just trim the ends and place them in a glass with about an inch or so of water at the bottom and leave them on the counter. These herbs can last anywhere from just a few days up to a week like this.

How to dry fresh herbs?

If you’re anything like us you may have more fresh herbs than you know what to do with. Place the leaves on a plate or specific drying rack and set aside in a cool dry place for several days. Then store it in a resealable glass container. Fresh herbs are no longer fit to be used and should be discarded as soon as the leaves turn brittle or dark or the stems begin to show traces of mold.
